What Is The Tesla Powerwall 3?
The Tesla Powerwall 3 has some really unique features that are going to lower the cost of going solar with storage, and it’s also going to get you more backup power for one battery unit versus one battery unit in the past.
Key Features of the Tesla Powerwall 3
The new Tesla Powerwall 3 features enhanced backup capacity, an integrated solar inverter, and convenient outdoor installation.
13.5 Kilowatt-Hour Backup Power Capacity
One Tesla Powerwall 3 is going to have the same 13.5 kwh backup capacity that it had in its previous version, but will include an inverter for additional backup power. This inverter will double the new Powerwall 3’s backup capacity and allow for peak power output.
Integrated Solar Inverter
The new Tesla Powerwall 3 is going to come with a Tesla solar inverter inside of it that can get you over 11 kilowatts of power in real time to back up your home. The old Powerwall 2 only had 5 kilowatts of capacity, so we’re talking about double the amount of continuous power output and backup that the Tesla Powerwall 3 can deliver to your home.
Outdoor Mounting & Installation
I have to say, my favorite feature is that it has the ability to be mounted outside in our colder Northeast climate. Every battery storage product we’ve installed before has had to be installed inside someone’s home, either in their basement, their garage, or somewhere else in their home, but this new Tesla Powerwall 3 can be mounted outdoors. It’s rated to be installed in operating conditions down to negative 4 degrees Fahrenheit, and it really saves on space and cost. If we don’t have to do all that extra electrical work in your home, it is really a cost saver.
Scalability & Energy Storage Options for the Tesla Powerwall 3
If you want to have more of a storage bank of battery capacity, you can add multiple Powerwall threes to your property. The Powerwall 3 efficiently uses grid power by drawing energy during periods when the cost is lowest and provides reliable backup power during outages, ensuring your home remains powered. If you don’t have energy storage with your existing solar system, your solar inverter turns off when the grid goes down.
All of the existing solar systems you see out there are grid-tied solar systems, which means that the inverter in the solar system is talking to the utility grid, and they only work together when the grid is on. So most homes that do not have storage associated with them, during a grid outage, the solar system goes off immediately and it is dormant.
Cost Savings & System Efficiency for the Tesla Powerwall 3
Maximizing energy savings is key, and the Tesla Powerwall 3, when paired with custom solar panel designs, significantly enhances these savings for homeowners. Another great feature about the Tesla Powerwall 3 is its ability to lower the cost of going solar with storage at the same time. The solar system on the roof can use the inverter that’s in the Tesla Powerwall 3, and the battery uses that same inverter that’s built into the Tesla Powerwall 3 to discharge power to power your home when the battery is being used.
So even if it is sunny out when the grid is down, all of these systems are not generating power unless you have set them up for backup power. These systems will turn on immediately when the grid goes down, and your home, and you in it, may not even notice that the power is out. When the grid goes down, because your backup battery system is going to activate and sense that the grid is out, it’s going to immediately start discharging the battery unit to make power for your home.
