This summer, Green Power Energy is celebrating their 10-year anniversary as New Jersey Solar Installers. The company, which was founded by Richard Meurer in 2009, has endured the ups and downs of the industry which some have described as the “Solar Coaster.”
Green Power Energy has come out of 10 years as New Jersey solar installers to reach its current peak in 2019 where they have been named the “#1 rated solar installer in New Jersey” by Energysage.com and the “Fastest Growing Solar Installer in 2019” by Panasonic.
In 2009, when the company was founded, Green Power Energy’s goal was to be an all inclusive renewable energy company.
All inclusive meaning the renewable energy options could include geothermal heating and cooling and wind power in addition to solar installation offerings. Green Power Energy never ended up doing a wind installation, but the company did install several Geothermal system successfully. It just turned out that the solar programs in New Jersey meant that solar installations in NJ were better for customers and a better business.
Green Power Energy was successful from the start, but like many other New Jersey solar installers, had to stay lean and competitive through the 2012 SREC market down turn, the solar tax credit (ITC) uncertainly, and more recently with the newly imposed solar tariffs. Much of the success Green Power Energy was able to find through these industry changes were simply based on scaling at a responsible rate and doing the right thing for the customer over and over. These values are what has lead to accolades from Energysage and Panasonic, as well as maintaining a 4.9 google rating and being mentioned amongst the Top New Jersey Solar Installers by SolarPowerWorld magazine.
Some of the highlights and big moments for Green Power Energy start with moving into The Village Green, the solar powered eco-village, and building out the 322 kW solar field that powers Green Power Energy’s facility.
It was after this move into the Village Green in 2012 that things start picking up for the young company. Throughout the company’s 10-year run, there have been residential, commercial, and agricultural solar installations. Green Power Energy has installed on schools like the Gottesman Academy in Randolph, nonprofits like Wayne Police Athletic League, farms like Tranquility Farm in Allamuchy, businesses like Music Together in Hopewell, as well as several thousand homes. Green Power Energy’s installations have included rooftop solar installations, grounded mounted solar installations, and even solar carports and solar pergolas.
When doing a solar installation in NJ with Green Power Energy, one can expect a more collaborative approach to the installation process. At Green Power Energy, the solar consultants are actually doing the preliminary designs and proposals themselves and often times with the customers at the kitchen table. This veers away from the industry standard with other New Jersey solar installers that a sales rep is emailed a quote by the corporate office before the meeting and presents one solar installation option with a predetermined solar panel selection.
With Green Power Energy, the client chooses everything. The solar customer can pick for several different solar equipment options, several different financing options, and even have the final say on the system layout.
This approach makes each solar installation customized, as it should be. The future looks bright for Green Power Energy as the company heads into its 10th year of business. With over 50 employees now, Green Power Energy is able to offer a full turnkey approach to its solar installations. Going forward, the possibility of expanding to other states like more in PA and others across the nation are a definite possibility. Green Power Energy operates under with the slogan, “Your Local Solar Company,” but other states are in the company’s sights. The most important motto for the company is to simply “Do The Right Thing.” For Green Power Energy, this is more than business. It is family, it is community, and it is being a part of our nation’s energy future.
