Problem
Ken Guilmartin, the founder of Music Together, was looking for a green approach while renovating the space which was a former restaurant and transforming it into a creative space to headquarter the business. Part of the green approach included geothermal heating and cooling, which can increase electricity usage even while reducing heating costs. The roof space on the building was limited, which meant Green Power Energy had to install a ground mounted array on the property. This required some tree work to fit an array that would offset the usage entirely and work alongside the geothermal heating and cooling system.
Solution
Geothermal heating and cooling was included in the renovation process of the building, pairing it with solar made the site entirely sustainable and reliant on green energy. Green Power Energy installed a 107.52 kW ground mounted solar array behind the building. The array is made up of 448 solar modules which offsets the electricity usage and geothermal system.
Result
By installing a solar array the site became a truly green operation, meeting Ken’s goals by powering the business with clean energy. The system reached its return on investment in year four and has collected over $150,000 worth of SREC income since being installed in 2013. The ground mounted array allowed for a system to offset the majority of the usage and allow the geothermal heating and cooling system to operate without additional costs.
Overall Solar Experience
“The return on the investment has been very satisfying, it feels good, it makes financial sense.”
